Grey's actor issues apology

Isaiah Washington has issued an apology in the hopes of ending the press coverage of his on-set argument and subsequent use of a homophobic slur. "I sincerely regret my actions and unfortunate use of words during the recent incident on-set," the statement reads. "Both are beneath my own personal standards... I have nothing but respect for my co-workers...and have apologized personally to everyone involved." A source on the set said the incident occurred when Washington and Dempsey were about to shoot a scene involving T.R. Knight, who was late to the set. Dempsey insisted on waiting for Knight before beginning the scene, and an argument intensified between the stars and ended with Washington using the alleged slur about gays. "Isaiah was running his mouth off," said the source. "Isaiah verbally attacked Patrick - he tore into him. Patrick's voice escalated and he did tell Isaiah to f**k off, [but] that was as heated as Patrick got." In response to rumors, T.R. Knight then issued a statement to People mag disclosing that he is gay. On Ellen Degeneres yesterday, fellow co-star Katherine Heigl called the incident "some scuffle... There was a little burst of testosterone in the room, and then within five minutes...they were totally fine."
