Takeru Kobayashi,Former hot dog eating champ arrested

Takeru Kobayashi,the former hot dog eating champ arrested at Coney Island after his rival, Joey Chestnut, won this year's Nathan's International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Takeru Kobayashi, got his titles from 2001 to 2006. He was not able compete this year because of a contract dispute with Major League Eating.

According to his spokeswoman Maggie James, Kobayashi's spokeswoman,"He got excited when people chanted his name after the contest .... so he jumped up on the stage because he wanted his fans to see him and (he thought) maybe they would chant, 'Let him eat,'"

Kobayashi was detained at police precinct in Brooklyn and was unclear whether he had a lawyer.

Days for the event, Kobayashi said he loves to join the contest but that the contract was too restrictive. The contract required by the competition would not allow him from competing in the United States or Canada for a year.
